What is Gator Sources of Strength?
Sources of Strength is a student-led wellness promotion initiative that borrows from positive psychology approaches to cultivating health and well-being. To complement and support the work of the crisis and treatment services on campus, we take an “upstream” approach to preventing negative outcomes and promoting positive ones. To this end, our goal is to foster awareness and recognition of strengths in an individuals’ life (we all have them!) while empowering growth where it’s needed.
The Wheel
This wheel represents 8 strengths that people from many cultures and worldviews commonly reference when reflecting on how they recovered from their toughest struggles and circumstances. Feeling strong in even just a few (2-3) of these categories can be protective. Check out this study, as just one example.
The Map
We have created this resource map to synthesize local resources categorically, according to the 8 strengths. Our hope is that this resource facilitates connection and engagement with the many existing resources in our community that can serve to develop our strengths and well-being.
