  • UF Counseling & Wellness Center – 352-392-1575 – Offers students free resources to help with change, growth and development. UF students can benefit from individual counseling, group counseling, wellness workshops and 24/7 crisis counseling.
  • Alachua County Crisis Center – 352-264-6789 – The Alachua County Crisis Center continues to offer 24 hr/day phone crisis and suicide intervention counseling to all residents of Alachua County.
  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline – The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Veterans Crisis Line – 1-800-273-8255 – The Veterans Crisis Line connects you with caring, qualified responders with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Many of them are Veterans themselves.
    • Note: This is the same number as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Follow the instructions to be transferred to the Veteran’s Crisis Line.
  • LGBTQ Youth Crisis Hotline (Trevor Project) – 866-488-7386- LGBTQ Youth Crisis Hotline is here to support you 24/7. If you are a young person in crisis, feeling suicidal, or in need of a safe and judgment-free place to talk, you can call the TrevorLifeline.
  • TransLifeline – 877-565-8860 (Available every day, 11 a.m. – 5 a.m.) -Trans Lifeline is a national trans-led organization dedicated to improving the quality of trans lives by responding to the critical needs of our community with direct service, material support, advocacy, and education. Their vision is to fight the epidemic of trans suicide and improve overall life-outcomes of trans people by facilitating justice-oriented, collective community aid.
  • Lifeline Chat – Available 24/7 -Lifeline Chat is a service of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, connecting individuals with counselors for emotional support and other services via web chat. All chat centers in the Lifeline network are accredited by CONTACT USA. Lifeline Chat is available 24/7 across the U.S.
  • Veterans Live Chat – Available 24/7 -The crisis chat is a free, anonymous, confidential resource that’s available to any Service member, including members of the National Guard and Reserve, and any Veteran, even if you’re not registered with VA or enrolled in VA health care.
  • LGBTQ Youth Crisis Chat/Text (TrevorChat/TrevorText) – Follow link for chat or text TREVOR to 202-304-1200. Available M-F, 3 – 10 p.m.- A crisis intervention and suicide prevention phone service available 24/7.

Emergency medicine is the medical specialty concerned with caring for undifferentiated and unscheduled patients with illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention.

Urgent Care Centers

Urgent care is a category of walk-in clinics focused on the delivery of ambulatory care in a dedicated medical facility outside of a traditional emergency department. Urgent care centers primarily treat injuries or illnesses requiring immediate care, but not serious enough to require an emergency department visit.

    • Medical — Thursday nights at Family Practice Medical Group, 625 SW 4th Avenue, Gainesville. Walk-ins only. Starts at 6 p.m. and sees about 15 patients on a first come first serve basis. The line starts forming very early (4 p.m.).
    • Medical — Tuesday nights at Gainesville Community Ministry, 238 SW 4th Avenue, Gainesville. Appointment patients and walk-ins. Starts at 5:30 p.m. and sees about 5-8 patients.
    • Women only — Thursday Nights at 625 SW 4th Avenue, Gainesville. Appointments for Women’s clinic can be made in person at Thursday night medical clinic (above) every Thursday night. Women’s clinic is held on the first Thursday of every month starting at 5:30 p.m. and sees 4 patients.

      • Step 2: Actual treatment appointment will be scheduled for first or third Tuesday of each month in which the patient must be at the Helping Hands Clinic at 9 a.m. (First United Methodist Church, 419 NE 1st Street, Gainesville, Florida, to take a special dental van to the actual dental clinic which is in Brooker Florida at the Acorn Clinic.
